The Story Behind the ART

Joy

Joy is part of my ongoing exploration of painting what it feels like to be seen. Inspired by love, growth, and the journey into painting, this piece carries both light and weight. It is a quiet homage to mental health and the resilience it takes to move through it.

This piece emerged during a pivotal chapter in my artistic journey, one profoundly shaped by the love, support, and presence of my wife. Her belief in me helped open the door to painting, and that energy is woven throughout this work. While deeply personal in its origins, Joy speaks to experiences that are universal: connection, growth, vulnerability, and resilience.

Every element within the composition is intentional. The color palette reflects emotional depth and contrast. The line work suggests both structure and disruption. Layered forms and textures mirror the complexity of our inner lives, where strength and vulnerability often coexist. Together, these elements create a visual language that invites reflection and discovery.

This work exists within my broader practice of painting what it feels like to be seen. It also serves as a quiet homage to mental health, honoring the experiences, struggles, and triumphs that often remain unseen. Joy is not simply about happiness. It is about presence. It is about choosing hope, connection, and light, even when they are difficult to find.

My hope is that this piece does more than occupy a wall. I hope it creates a moment of recognition, reflection, and connection each time you encounter it.
